Queen Sugarplum

aka Faerie Queen Pirate Zirondelle le Rouge

Hi,

My name is Teresa Varela from Frisco Texas, and I'm Queen of the Sugarplum Faeries. About 5 years ago I was watching the comedy show "Rule's of Engagement" and it was the episode where the character Russel goes on an all women's cruise hoping to score. It turned out all the women aboard the ship were Red Hat Society members. Season 5 Episode 24 "Last of the Red Hat Lovers" While I was watching this hilarious show, I was thinking how much fun these ladies were having and that I'd like to have that kind of fun just acting silly and young. About 3 years later I was shopping at Sam Moon and I saw about 6 to 8 women coming out of the store all wearing different designs of red hats and all wearing purple. They were laughing and seemed to be acting less than their ages appeared to be. I immediately recognized them as Red Hat Society members from the comedy show I had watched. Right then and there I told the person I was with that when I turned 50 years old I was joining the Red Hat Society and I was going to have fun right along with them.

2 Years later I turned 50 years old. The day I turned 50 I told my husband I was joining the Red Hat Society, and here we are. My husband supports my RHS activities whether it's from my own chapter or whether I'm playing with other chapters as long as our finances can handle them. I have met so many wonderful women from all over the state of Texas and some from other states as well who come for big events. I am officially known as Queen Sugarplum of the "Sugarplum Faeries", but I am also known as Faerie Queen Pirate, Zirondelle le Rouge (The Red Dragonfly) of the "Yo Ho! It's A Pirates Life For Me" chapter. I also belong to a RHS chapter called "Miss Kitty's Texas Stars" where we dress in Victorian costumes.

I have 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren. I have been married for over 23 years to the same man and I have a min-pin named Daisy. I am in the process of getting my Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice from Collin College in Frisco Texas.
